HIDDEN ISSUES WITH RAAC
FROM RESEARCH TO REMEDIATION
This latest Technical Event offers Concrete Society Members a brief insight into research and findings of RAAC - the hidden issues, remedial methods and long-term protection. The 45-60 minute talk will be given by Christian Stone, a Materials Scientist, representing Concrete Preservation Technologies Ltd. (CPT), who has led their RAAC program, and now splits his time between research with Chris Goodier at Loughborough University and CPT. CPT has been undertaking research into RAAC for 5 years for the NHS independently and in collaboration with Loughborough University. This presentation covers the major findings on the variation within RAAC manufacture and installation, issues with maintenance and alterations, corrosion in RAAC and the developed technology CPT has implemented to control corrosion in RAAC.
Breakfast and refreshments will be served at 8.00am, prior to the presentation at 8.30am. Places are limited to 25 and will be assigned on a first come basis. The Technical Event will take place at Beton Bauen's head office in Caerphilly and should cover the following:
Load tests
AAC chemistry
The variety of anticorrosion coatings
The degradation mechanisms that can lead to corrosion
Testing for corrosion using specially developed techniques for RAAC
Cathodic protection technology used to mitigate the corrosion
